WARNING: POLITICAL POST
For the majority of my life I considered myself conservative,
a red tory, but a conservative none the less. Through the mess of years that was Stelmach, Redford, Hancock, and Prentice I drifted away. The final nail was the WRP/PC merger that turned the party into a catastrophe.
I hoped for the Alberta Party to hold some of the conservative values that I like, while still ensuring tha.t education, health, minimum wage earners, and the disabled are taken care of.
The Alberta Party unfortunately tried to be the friend of everyone party and still has left so much to be desired and that fact that we still really don’t know what they stand for. Yes, they had a policy convention but where are they and what are they doing we are only a few short months away from an election.
I voted NDP in the last election, I could not support either of the conservative parties in the battle they were having. The deceit in those parties was unacceptable. Unfortunately, they combined the deceit and elected a leader that has demonstrated homophobic tendencies over the years and I personally am scared of his anti-abortion, and over dominant religious interference in his political positions.
Jason Kenney is a greasy politician, he attracts the ultra right wing crowd likes ants to a puddle of honey. Can I trust the candidates that have been nominated underneath him? I was a member of the UCP here in St. Albert and I supported Jeff Wedman in his bid to become the UCP candidate for St. Albert. Jeff is a good man sitting in a cess pool. I am terrified that the CA has my credit card information after the alleged fraud that Kenney is unwilling to have investigated in one of his parties nomination contests.
Following my vote for Jeff, I considered my membership null and void, I spent that $10 for a good man but also told him that is as far as I could support him.
I waited patiently for the Alberta Party CA in St. Albert to do something. As of writing this today, there is still nothing but rumour. Neil Korotash, another good man is caught in this mess and is trying his best but there is not much other good support around him.
As a result, I have thrown my support behind two great ladies that I hope will end up representing St. Albert and Morinville-St. Albert. In St. Albert, Marie Renaud won the nomination for the NDP this past Wednesday night and on January 10, 2019 Shawna Gawreluck will be looking for the nomination in Morinville-St. Albert.
Are the NDP the perfect party today? Absolutely not, but they actually listen, they change their minds when they realize they are wrong. Rachel Notley did campaign against pipelines, but after getting into office learned that while we do need to move to alternate sources, this isn’t an overnight thing and we do need pipelines to survive. Guess what, she has done more for the success of the TMX pipeline than the previous Conservative government. Heck, Trudeau has done more than the previous Conservative government on this matter as well.
I appreciate the fact that Rachel Notley and her team think things through before making rash decisions. I hope someday I get to meet her and shake her hand and thank her for everything she has done. I can’t say the same for Ed Stelmach, Allison Redford, or Jim Prentice (RIP).
In closing for now, I ask that any of my friends in the Morinville-St. Albert riding really consider supporting Shawna Gawreluck in the NDP nomination meeting on January 10, 2019. Even if it is just to support her in the nomination meeting and learn more about her. You must have a current NDP membership purchased before 10 pm on December 28, 2018 to be able to vote in the nomination meeting.
